The McGuire films had older actors, but those actors were I love this game shirt. You could tell that they tried their hardest. The movie makers also tried extremely hard to make a STORY for the bigger picture. Sure, Mary Jane of the McGuire films look older than Gwen from Garfield films. BUT, Mary Jane acted youthful, and even though we knew she was an adolescent, her “problems” came across as a teenager learning how the world works. The same phenomenon is applied to the whole Toby learning about his powers. My theory, is that Garfield was so over-worked that his stress made him have a bad attitude towards Sony and later his own relationships. I really think that if Garfield controlled his stress better, he would have pulled himself together for the third movie. I know Sony isn’t great, but I am sure having a different production team HELP him, would have bettered his career. I have another theory that Garfield became a greedy person after the 3rd movie, as he definitely would not be paid much at all for a 3rd movie (since his 2nd movie wasn’t AS GOOD as his first). But I think that just highlights his downfall at the end of his acting career. It is sad to see a younger actor symbolically take over his role.

In McGuire’s final film, his acting definitely deteriorated. But I feel this was solely because the I love this game shirt makers had a rubbish story. This is really interconnected in acting, because an actor can only do so much. There were some questionable scenes. And the Gwen of McGuire’s film literally felt like she did not know what planet she was on. She didn’t FIT into the movie at all. I’d imagine that this 3rd movie was made purely to squeeze more money out of the franchise, at the expense of its longevity.Overall, both actors were objectively bad at the end of their careers. However, McGuire’s Spiderman was better because: a. He had good directors b. His movies had stronger storylines c. His problems made him appear like a teenaged Spiderman d. He had humour (though not directly Spidey humour, it still trumps Garfield’s humour) e. He did not completely flop his final film as bad as Garfield’s final (but he comes dangerously close!!) f. He had palpable passion that could light up a block g. I felt that he left a legacy that even gave Garfield success.
