Although my theoretical writing of a straight individual may be inaccurate due to the Dr Seuss today you are you LGBT shirt that I have not seen the world through the eye’s of a straight individual, it is unlikely to based on negative stereotypes due to the media I have been exposed to – the vast majority of which is media produced about straight cisgendered people by straight cisgendered people in an environment in which everyone is assumed to be heterosexual and cisgendered. Thus meaning that almost everything I consume is very ‘pro-Straight people’ (which sounds a bit weird but I hope you get the idea). However; a portrayal of an LGBT+ individual drawn from a straight cisgendered person’s perspective is likely to contain negative stereotypes and/or tropes in the story line which can be damaging to the community. This isn’t necessarily a fault of the writer, but of the surroundings they were brought up in and the media they have consumed that has ingrained certain homophobic/transphobic attitudes within them, even if they are actively trying their best to tackle it. This is because the media we see today that contains LGBT+ characters is largely written by straight people who haven’t done sufficient research and/or don’t care how they are portraying LGBT+ individuals and therefore let their own prejudices seep into the writing of such media.

Not too long after this, she told me she thought she was gay even though she didn’t really want to have sex with women either – she had a crush on her best friend from uni but the thought of really having a physical relationship with her was almost as physically repulsive as it was with her boyfriend. The relationship endured for a couple more years with boyfriend seeming to feel that if it was a choice between having a relationship with her or having sex with someone else, he’d rather have her without the sex – which was kind of lovely for a very red-blooded boy from his late teens through to his mid-twenties. They were really just friends for the last year and eventually, he met another girl who wanted the whole shooting match and he broke up with my daughter. She now identifies herself as being emotionally bi, with a heavy leaning towards females, but physically asexual. She has another intense friendship with a guy – they spend all weekend together playing video games and watching movies and if she has a drama in her life, he is the one she calls to tell about it – but there is no desire to take it further.
